3 Day Course

Our 3 day course offers a more intense filmmaking process  from script to the end product. Through creative exercises and skills-based sessions, they will plan shots, direct and shoot their film. Students are provided with the chosen film idea of the workshop and are then responsible for creating their vision as a team.  Using professional and specialist equipment, students learn a range of skills in camerawork, sound, script writing, acting and directing.

Summer Residential (5 Days)

Barnes Film Academy’s all-inclusive summer residential is a dream come true, a chance to eat, sleep and breathe documentary filmmaking. The course includes full board accommodation and meals, state of the art filming technology, tuition, excursions, equipment and activities.

 

Students will be flown up to Alladale Wilderness Reserve’s 100 square kilometres of rugged mountains, forests, rivers and lochs, located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, just an hour’s drive north of Inverness. Located where red deer gather, and close to where the golden eagles nest, this is the perfect location to capture incredible landscapes, natural history and wildlife film. Delivered over five days and four nights, the programme includes hiking, navigation, bushcraft and numerous other outdoor activities – ecology underpins and is integrated throughout the whole journey. The programme can also include the John Muir Award or The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award accreditation.

 

Once there students of BFA students will divide into teams to create their very own nature documentary, led by myself, and other industry professionals, with additional guidance from some special guest speakers. Students in each crew will develop the hands-on creative and technical skills they need to take a documentary from initial concept to professional screening.

 

When students aren’t filming there’ll be oodles of great fun outdoor and indoor activities on offer for them to enjoy during breaks from filming, including:

Music Video Party

Become a popstar for the day in a youtube style music video! BFA offers the best music video filmmaking parties for kids in London, creating the ultimate blend of fun with incredibly professional results. For your party we will send two filmmakers to your home to create a pop promo starring your kids and their guests - all set to their favorite soundtrack. Taking it in turns to direct, act and operate the camera, the workshops are fun, fast-paced, and very practical. Participants can chose their music video from an extensive list and can learn a range of skills in filmmaking including teamwork, planning and organisational skills.

5 Day Course

Our 5 day course guides children and young people through the process of coming up with a film idea all the way to the end product. Through creative exercises and skills-based sessions, they will work with genre, character and story development. They will devise stories, plan shots, shoot and edit their film. Students are provided with the chosen theme of the workshop and are then responsible for creating their vision as a team.  Using professional and specialist equipment, students learn a range of skills in camerawork, sound, script writing, editing, animation, acting and directing.
